Our Privacy Commitment

BetterPal is built with privacy as our foundation. We believe your personal relationships and contact information should remain exactly that - personal. That's why we've designed BetterPal to store all your data locally on your device, with no cloud storage or server-side data collection.

Information We Collect

Data You Create

When you use BetterPal, you create and store the following information exclusively on your iPhone:

• Contact names and details
• Notes about people
• Tags for organizing contacts
• Relationship connections between people
• Photos or emojis you add to contacts
• Birthday information
• Social media handles and contact information
• Location data you manually enter
• Reminder settings

Important: We do NOT collect, transmit, or store any of this personal data on our servers. All information lives exclusively on your device.

Data We Do NOT Collect

BetterPal does not collect, store, or transmit:

• Your personal contact information
• The content of your notes or relationships
• Your location or location history
• Usage analytics or behavioral data
• Device identifiers for tracking purposes
• Any personally identifiable information

Third-Party Services

While BetterPal itself does not collect your data, we use the following third-party services that may process limited information:

RevenueCat

We use RevenueCat to process in-app subscription payments. RevenueCat may collect:

• Purchase and subscription information
• Device and app identifiers
• Information necessary for subscription management

RevenueCat does NOT have access to your contact data, notes, or any personal information you store in BetterPal. For more information, see RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.

Apple App Store

Payment processing is handled by Apple through the App Store. Apple may collect:

• Payment information
• Purchase history
• Apple ID information

Apple does NOT have access to your BetterPal contact data. For more information, see Apple's Privacy Policy.

How We Use Your Information

Since all your data is stored locally on your device:

• We cannot access your information
• We do not use your data for any purpose
• We do not share your data with anyone
• We do not analyze or process your personal information

Your data is used solely by you, on your device, to manage your personal relationships.

Data Storage and Security

Local Storage

All BetterPal data is stored locally on your iPhone using secure iOS storage mechanisms (AsyncStorage/Expo SecureStore). Your data is protected by your device's security features, including:

• iOS device encryption
• Your device passcode/biometric authentication
• iOS app sandboxing

No Cloud Sync

BetterPal does not automatically sync your data to iCloud or any other cloud service. Your information remains on your device unless you explicitly export it.

Data Retention

Your data is retained on your device for as long as you keep the app installed. You have complete control over your data:

• Data persists on your device until you delete the app
• You can export your data at any time via Settings
• Deleting the app will permanently remove all BetterPal data from your device
• We cannot recover deleted data, as we never had access to it

You have complete control over your BetterPal data:

Right to Access

All your data is accessible directly within the app at any time. You can view, edit, and manage all information you've created.

Right to Export

You can export your entire BetterPal database as a JSON file via Settings. This allows you to:

• Create backups of your data
• Transfer data to a new device
• Keep a personal copy of your information

Right to Delete

You can delete individual contacts, notes, or tags at any time. To delete all data, simply uninstall the app from your device.

Right to Portability

Exported data is in standard JSON format, making it portable and readable by other applications.

Children's Privacy

BetterPal is rated 4+ on the App Store, but we recommend users be at least 13 years old. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. Since all data is stored locally and we have no access to it, we cannot determine the age of our users. Parents and guardians should monitor their children's use of the app.

International Users

BetterPal can be used worldwide. Since all data is stored locally on your device, there are no international data transfers to our servers (because we don't have servers). Data only leaves your device if you explicitly export it.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. We will notify you of any material changes by:

• Posting the updated policy in the app
• Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
• Notifying you through the app if changes are significant

Your continued use of BetterPal after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.

California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). However, since BetterPal does not collect, store, or process your personal information on our servers, these rights are inherently protected:

• Right to Know: All your data is on your device and accessible to you at all times
• Right to Delete: You can delete data anytime or uninstall the app
• Right to Opt-Out: We don't sell your data (we don't have it to sell)
• Right to Non-Discrimination: All features are available to all users regardless of privacy choices

Data Breaches

Since we do not store your data on our servers, a data breach of our systems would not compromise your personal information. Your data's security depends on your device's security. We recommend:

• Using a strong device passcode or biometric authentication
• Keeping your iOS software up to date
• Being cautious about device access
• Regularly exporting your data for backup purposes
